The Metro
The Fabrication Center will host a series of public Open Houses during the month of October. During the upcoming Fabrication Center Open Houses, attendees can explore the digital fabrication lab, view laser engraving and 3-D printing machines in action, examine sample projects, and engage in conversation with Fabrication Center leadership. Open Houses will be limited to 30 participants at a time. No pre-registration is required, but if the event is at capacity, guests may be asked to wait until the previous round of participants depart. Dates include:

Tuesday, October 20th, 3 pm – 6 pm
Tuesday, October 27th, 3 pm – 6 pm

About The Metro
When The Metro was built in 1946, Midtown was in the spotlight as it was the first factory constructed in the City of Kingston after World War II.
A symbol of hope then, this long-vacant space has taken on many different identities over the last 70 years. From its origin as The Pilgrim Furniture Factory, to the bustling Metropolitan Life Hall of Records, to a makeshift skatepark or mischievous batting practice background, The Metro has naturally been defined by the people of Kingston.
The Metro’s meaning has held significance to those who worked there, those who walked by, and when it was empty, those who wondered, “What could it be?”
Now, it is being returned to the community for Kingston to define as an asset, a place to learn new skills, connect with people, and create possibilities.
With over 80,000 sq. ft. of space, the first section of the building to welcome community members will be The Fabrication Center. This 20,000 square foot area of The Metro was created for hands-on making, skill-sharing, and creative community projects that are rooted in sustainable practices.
Opening in phases, The Metro will be a community learning hub, with a wide variety of ways to engage. The Metro will support learning through workshops, events, and evolving programs that reflect local needs and interests and uplift the gifts of Kingston. With thousands of sq. ft. left to be programmed, local residents will have countless opportunities to help define what The Metro is in 2026 and beyond.

At the center of The Metro will be The Atrium, a 7,000 sq ft. open gathering space, which will include a stage, a movie screen, and flexible space.
In addition to vibrant, interactive, and bustling spaces throughout The Metro, the building will offer calm, quiet spaces like The Library.
